▶ New Episode Episode 12 — A Study of Titus The Gospel in One ParagraphTitus 3:4–7 There are passages in the New Testament you have to slow down for — not because they're difficult, but because they're so full that moving through them at normal speed leaves you not quite sure what just happened. In this episode, we sit with Titus 3:4–7, one of the most complete summaries of the gospel anywhere in Scripture — the Father's kindness, the Spirit's renewing work, and the Son's saving grace, all in four verses. Not a self-improvement program. Not a moral upgrade. A rescue. ▶ Spotify ▶ Apple Podcasts ▶ Amazon Music |
✍ From the Study Notes “He saved us, not by the righteous deeds we had done, but according to His mercy, through the washing of new birth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.” — Titus 3:5, BSB |
Mercy, Not Merit. Paul's word for this is monergism — salvation as a single-agent work. God does the saving. We receive it. We brought nothing to the table that warranted rescue, and the rescue happened anyway, because of mercy. In one dense paragraph Paul stacks up new birth, renewal, justification, and inheritance — leaving no room for us to claim we contributed a thing. What would it look like this week to actually rest in that, instead of quietly trying to earn what's already been given? |
