Episode 9 — A Study of Titus
Living Between Two Appearings
Titus 2:13–15
Paul gives believers a three-tense framework for life: what
Christ has already done, what we do now, and what we're
waiting for. In this episode, we look at how three verses
hold that whole arc together — grace that has already
appeared, a present calling to live sensibly and uprightly,
and the blessed hope of Christ's return. What does it mean to
actually live like you believe He's coming back — and how
does that hope reshape what today is for?

“He gave Himself for us to redeem us from all
lawlessness and to purify for Himself a people for
His own possession, zealous for good deeds.”
— Titus 2:14, BSB
|
Redeemed and Purified. Paul compresses the
entire gospel into one sentence in Titus 2:14, using two verbs
pulled from very different worlds. Redeem — lytroō —
comes from the slave market: a price paid to set a captive
free. Purify — katharizō — comes from the temple: not
just released, but made clean and brought near. Together they
describe a rescue that is both legal and relational — freedom
from bondage, and belonging to God. The result isn't reluctant
obedience but a people described as
zealous for good deeds — genuinely eager, because
they understand what they've been rescued for.
What would it look like, this week, to let that eagerness
show?
